Feature request: Sharepoint Explorer View site by Sharepoint URL

Post by dejan.ilic »

Hi.
I'm evaluating the product and noticed that backups of sites are displayed by "Site Name" only in the Explorer GUI.
The issue is that there can be duplicates, in our case some thousands++ of these due to Microsoft recommendation of creating a new Sharepoint Online site instead of subsite, for the purpose of performance when we create a new course room for each course and occurance (1-4 each year). And as these are never retired/deleted (for now) the number is growing each year.
Right now all of them are named "Courseroom" making it more or less impossible to separate easily.
Of course we could search for it using Advanced Search, but it is cumbersome and slow.

See my example : Image

Iternally I have asked the responsible group if they could rename the courseroom sites, but I still think that VBR for M365 can be improved as we right now have some 152 000+ sites and the chance of duplicate Site naming is high.

I propose that there should be multiple ways of displaying the object tree, at least both Site Name and Site URL.

Hi Dejan,

Thank you for your request.

I don’t expect any short-term changes regarding how we display objects in the Recovery Explorer of our product. If you need a solution today, then changing the naming convention on the source site would be the only way.
Other course providers and universities I know of are using an approach like this: YYYY-MM-CourseName

I have asked the developers to rename the sites, which they did, so the most "urgent" problem is solved.
