Moving Backups to new repo, nothing happens

Post by mkretzer »

Hello,

i am trying to move the backups from one Repository to another via the target Storage dialog when editing backups. If i click yes the location gets checked, i can select "Move Existing", i can acknowledge the new location and then nothing happens and i am in the "Secondary Target" dialog.
I can click finish, run the job and still nothing gets moved.

When exactly will the move start? Or is this a bug (then i will open a case)?

Hi Markus,

I just tested quick on 12.3, and a few observations:

1. The Backup Copy job started and appeared to interrupt the Move Backup and it logged a failure in the Last 24 Errors section
2. Retrying the move from the Storage tab after the Backup Copy completed worked as expected

Can I ask you to check the Last 24 section and see if around the time you tested this, a Move Backup session started but was failed due to an active job?

Or do you not see any Move Backup sessions in the Last 24h section after your test?

You are right, tape job has successfully backed up the job in question but was still running backing up other jobs to tape.
The error "Failed to process backup Error: Selected backup is locked by an active backup job, please let it finish before starting any backup management operation." was logged but was not shown in the backup configuration dialog. So this seems to be a bug.

Agreed, the behavior is not great and easy to miss that it failed. Thanks for reporting it Markus, will discuss internally.
