How to change regions

Post by Asahi » 1 person likes this post

Hi,

Currently, the Japan Region is not available for Veeam Data Cloud Vault.
For Asia, the Hong Kong or Singapore region is used.

For example, if we are using the Hong Kong or Singapore region and the Japan region comes up, is there a function to change the region?

Do I need to add a Japan Region connection to Veeam and use the “Move Backup” feature?

To migrate from one repository to another, you can create a Scale-out Backup Repository, put the old repository into sealed and maintenance modes, and initiate the backup evacuation procedure. Additionally, you can use the "move backup" functionality to move from one repository to another.

However, if we announce support for a new region and you want to move to it, I would recommend contacting us — we might be able to copy the backups from one region to another for you using Azure's native commands.

Thank you.

Hi Veremin,

Thank you for info.

I understand about contacting Veeam support when a region change becomes necessary.

However, is it mandatory to configure SOBR?
I am considering direct backup to object storage without configuring SOBR.

Can't I use the Move backup function I sent you?

You don't necessarily need to have a SOBR on hand; I only mentioned that in the case of migration, you can create SOBR temporarily by adding the old and new repositories to it and then migrate the backups from the old repository to the new one using the evacuation procedure available in the SOBR engine. After that, you can dispose of the SOBR.

Alternatively, you can use the "move backup" functionality, which does not require creating a SOBR even temporarily.

Thank you.
