Design guide for NAS Backup NetApp with SnapMirror

Post by KarmaKuma »

Is there some documentation/design guidance on how to build out the Veeam Infra for a NetApp SnapMirrore(d) NAS setup?

I am thinking about things like:
- Cache repo availability/redundancy (matching the repo availability to the near-zero RTO of a SnapMirror SVM)
- What happens when failing over the active SVM role to the secondary NetApp (does the cache still match?)
- SnapDiff integration yes/no?

Hi @KarmaKuma here is some general sizing for unstructured NAS proxies -
https://bp.veeam.com/vbr/3_Build_struct ... proxy.html

- Cache repo availability/redundancy (matching the repo availability to the near-zero RTO of a SnapMirror SVM)Just to clarify are you using SVM-DR here? The cache repository is just an unstructured file share.

- What happens when failing over the active SVM role to the secondary NetApp (does the cache still match?) The cache repository is independent of a NetApp failover. Please provide more details.

- SnapDiff integration yes/no? Yes, I would recommend enabling this for a NetApp NAS filer. It is available in VDP 12.3.

We are currently looking at updating our Veeam calculators for unstructured data with the CFT option. The will help when performing a Unstructured data sizing, it is TBD at the moment :D

Thanks,
Pete
