File & Folder Backups Using Labels
Hello -
We have new retention an backup requirements from our business which are based on yearly retention: 1,5, 7, 8, etc. for files and folders.
Is there a method in Veeam to label files based on those retention requirements and then create a backup job(s) using the labels?
It would be great if for example I label 3 files 1 year, 5 files 3 years, etc and then have Veeam scan and place the files in the appropriate retention job.
TIA.
Lewis

Hi Lewis,
At this time this is not possible, but would be an interesting feature for sure.
For now you would need to set individual jobs to handle the retention as you're describing for each of the different retention requirements you have.

Hey Dave -
I might be asking the same question a different way, but is there a method in Veeam to read file metadata and backup based on a metadata field which could be a retention requirement?

Hi LEWISF,
Same answer at this time. Can I ask, while I get the use case, what is the application in use that is doing the tagging like this? Is it like EXIF data or some other video metadata?

Re: File & Folder Backups Using Labels
We don't have an application doing the tagging/labeling. The need was being discussed because different files have different retention requirements, so the business needed to know if VDP offered a way to filter based on metadata or some type of tag/label.

Re: File & Folder Backups Using Labels
I'd love to be able to add descriptions/notes/labels on jobs, veeamzips, and other items that end up in veeam for a long time. It really helps when someone else is wondering "why is this here, and what was this for!"
