First Full Backup in the presence of Snapshots.

I have read the previous posts regarding pre-existing snapshots, and CBT. In fact, I just encountered the situation, and I am told that I
may not delete the snapshot. My full backup was successful w/o CBT. What adverse effects will I see, other than performance, if I continue
w/o CBT, until I have permission to delete the snapshot?

The worst situation you could have is actually unrelated to the backup job at all. I believe you're aware that once your snapshot size reaches the size of its parent virtual disk your VM will be hard stopped, that is why keeping snapshots on production VMs is not considered as best practice.
