Hello,
I am looking for any guidance or tips on moving from physical Veeam backup proxies to virtual proxies. We are re-architecting our backup infrastructure and also changing our storage infrastructure from FC to ISCSI. In addition, moving from a traditional 3-tier architecture to VMware vSAN. From what I have read we will have to use the virtual appliance for vSAN regardless. We also do agent backups for our file servers that are RDM's on VMs. With moving to ISCSI can we also use VMs as proxies to get those agent backups? And will that also give us better performance than physical proxies? Are there any right-sizing guides for the proxy VMs?
In addition in the case of a disaster scenario and we lose virtual proxy servers how do we go about recovering them? Is that something we create a backup job for or do we build new ones and the configuration gets pushed with a configuration backup/restore?
Any guidance is appreciated I know there is a lot of questions there. Thank you!!

Re: Moving from physical Veeam backup Proxies to Virtual backup Proxies
With virtual Proxies you can use Hot-Add Mode. Thist can scale and in most cases your repository will now becomes the bottleneck.
You dont neet to take care of those proxies. If one got lost just deploy a new one.

Joerg

Re: Moving from physical Veeam backup Proxies to Virtual backup Proxies
Do you have any recommendations on moving from moving from physical proxies to virtual? In addition for backing up RDM volumes using the agent are physical proxies better or will virtual proxies suffice?
