Hello,
if it would it be possible to query the number of changed blocks of a disk from CBT before starting to read the disk via proxy? If yes, our feature request would be a "smart" transport mode selection which switches between hot-add and NBD depending on the number of changed blocks.
Since the whole process of attaching and detaching disks from proxies takes a lot longer with hot-add than with NBD we use NBD for most of our VMs. But everytime there are alot of changed blocks this limits the backup performance.
Even if the whole concept is not feasible another idea would be to have a setting like "use NBD for incrementals but hot-add for fulls".

Re: "Smart" transport mode selection FR
Interesting case. Noted.
As a workaround to solve the case now, remember, that you can always alter used job's proxy via PowerShell with Set-VBRJobProxy which could be switched between Hot-Add\NBD mode proxies the day you want with Pre\Post-Job script - add different types of transport proxy servers, use NBD by default, switch to hot-add on day when Full Backup is performed. Alternatively you can change existing Backup Proxy transport mode same way.
/Thanks!

Is there any news about this feature request? We are trying to optimize backup speed together with Veeam and again, even with everthing at the newest version NBD still seems to be quite a bit faster overall when there are not alot of changes.
