Self Service Restore for Veeam Enterprise Manager

Post by atg »

Hello, all.
Has anyone been able to *self service* restore Linux Guest OS files using Veeam Backup Enterprise Manager? I have gotten Windows but it does not seem like Linux is supported. This is for self service but not normal guest OS file restore.

Thank you,
David

Hi David

Correct.
"Self Service" is not available for Linux OS FLR. From our helpcenter:
Self-Service File Restore Portal is available only for users of Microsoft Windows machines. For Linux-based machines, guest OS file restore is performed in the Veeam Backup Enterprise Manager UI under a user account configured in Enterprise Manager.

Thank you, if I may ask where does it say that exactly in the text

Is it this part
Self-Service File Restore Portal is available only for users of Microsoft Windows machines.

For Linux-based machines, guest OS file restore is performed in the Veeam Backup Enterprise Manager UI under a user account configured in Enterprise Manager. For more information, see Configuring Accounts and Roles.

I believe Fabian has highlighted the word "User Guide" as a hyperlink, through which you can read all the provided information.

If for some reason this hyperlink does not work, I will provide it again below in full format:

https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=120

See the second note in the "Before You Begin" section.

Thanks!

Thanks I read this verbiage
"Self-Service File Restore Portal is available only for users of Microsoft Windows machines. For Linux-based machines, guest OS file restore is performed in the Veeam Backup Enterprise Manager UI under a user account configured in Enterprise Manager. For more information..."

The small nuance is it feels like the sentence after self service restore is related to the self service restore but it refers to just general restore, not self service. Thanks everyone.

It seems this is just a matter of different perceptions. For me (although I am by no means a native speaker), the sentences read as if self-service restore is only available for Windows machines within the portal, whereas for Linux machines, only the regular restore is available within the Enterprise Manager.

In any case, thank you for the feedback, we will think about how to improve this text.
