Veeam setup with GCP

Post by faisalmali »

Hello Everyone,

Support ID: 03602714

I am seeking some clarification and guidance regarding a cloud migration we are planning to do.

we will migrate all our workloads from our current cloud to GCP.

we already have Veeam setup with our current cloud and below is a quick summary of the setup:

VBR server hosted in our HQ with local backup repository there is a site-to-site connection with our Cloud Environment.

In our Cloud environment we have another repo server (Linux) where all our servers connect to it to store the backups later the backup are copied (backup copy job) to our local HQ repo.

So the question here when we migrate to GCP how can we achieve the same or similar setup?
where our backups are stored in a GCP repo that are later moved to or local HQ repo.

and do I have to open an official support case regarding this implementation.

Thank you any help will be much appreciated.

Hello Faisal,

After you migrate the workload to GCP you can use Veeam Backup for GCP to create the backups to the repository. We use the Google Cloud Storage as repository on Veeam Backup for GCP.
After that, you can use VBR to create Backup Copies of those backups to an on-premises repository or even to another cloud.

You can check the user guide for VBGCP here: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/vbgc/ ... html?ver=6
And also, how to create the backup copies here: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/vbgc/ ... html?ver=6

Hello Thanks for the clarification ,

so just to make sure I understand correctly I will have A cloud storage on GCP that will act as my repo and my servers will be backed there then create a backup copy to my Local repo.

I have a further questions here I will still need a site to site connection with my GCP ?

Do I need to install the agents on the new environment servers?

Finally last one I know that there is a Veeam appliance for GCP what does it do exactly and do I need it for my set up?

Thank you

Hello,

A: It's not mandatory, you can use direct connection via internet to connect the VBR with the VB GCP.

Do I need to install the agents on the new environment servers?
A: No Agents, the communication with the VMs/Infrastructure is all via Google APIs.

Finally last one I know that there is a Veeam appliance for GCP what does it do exactly and do I need it for my set up?
A: It acts like a proxy in the cloud with an Web interface to create the policies to protect the Google Cloud native VMs. You can check the User Guide to understand better: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/vbgc/ ... html?ver=6
