restore with direct storage with proxy and gateway server on the same server

I am trying to do a restore and use the direct storage transport method, the backup is hosted on a datadomain connected by FC so I have a gateway server let's call it server01, this same server (server01) I have it added as a proxy with visibility to all the moons, at the time of doing the restore I select the proxy Server01 but the restore is executed with NBD mode because it is physical, my question is why it does not run in direct storage, the proxy server can be the same as the gateway server in a restore and use direct storage as transport mode?

Can you confirm the disk type of the VM you're trying to restore? If it's Thin-provisioned, NBD will always be used as per the note.

If it's not thin-provisioned, it's best to open a Support Case and let Support review the debug logs. (Use the 3rd radio option to export logs from hosts, select the Veeam server itself to export logs from. Be sure to mention the name of the machine you tested restores on)

Support can check the debug logs and provide further guidance on why the restore isn't using DirectSAN.

the disks are thick provisioned, and if I use a fixed proxy virtuial uses the hotadd transport mode, but when I want to use the physical proxy connected to the san for direct storage uses nbd, my doubt is to know if it is possible that a server fulfills the role of gateway server and proxy server at the same time in a restoration.

Yes, the gateway server can also be a proxy, this is a rather common setup for exactly this use case, so likely there is a configuration issue with the proxy, but it would be best to Support review the debug logs as Support will be able to give much more targeted guidance based on the logs than we can guessing on the forums.
