Duplicate/ReWrite tape job ? (wrong tape used)

Post by GaborCs »

Hi Community,

accidentaly we used wrong tape for our daily incremental tape backup job (we are using serialized tapes for daily/weekly backups)

how can I "rewrite" the job to another tape?

it's a daily GFS tape job, so it's writing all daily increment backups to tape

when i treid to re-run the job - it can not find any new backups - ofcourse, because it's increment - so that's not the good solution

i tried the "tape copy", but it's need 2 drives - got only one drive in my robot

any idea?

Tahnks,
G.

Hi GaborCs,

Do the following:

1. Remove the tape from catalog; right-click the tape that was incorrectly used and select Remove from Catalog -- this will NOT erase the tape or affect the data on the tape, it will just tell Veeam to "forget" about what is on the tape contents -- you can bring the catalog data back into Veeam by right-clicking the tape and selecting "Catalog"
2. After the Remove from Catalog process completes, insert the correct tape and run the tape job again. It will tape-out again the backups still on disk that were backed up to the incorrect tape

Hi David,

Thanks for the reply

it looks like working - just first needs to be remove the tape, because to remove from catalog working only with offline tapes

but overall, yes, this is the solution right now, and it's working

thanks

Glad it's working for you and that I could help.

And yes, apologies I forgot to mention to eject the tape, but glad you were able to figure it out.
