SOBR Configuration - 2 CapTier Targets / 1 PerfTier
Hello -
This is a configuration / how to question so there's no Veeam ticket opened.
Currently I have the majority of my backups configured to go to different SOBRs. The performance tier is an onsite NAS and the cap tier is AWS storage buckets provided by a vendor
We just on-boarded another vendor who is providing S3 compatible storage.
The business now wants the cap tier of the SOBRs with first vendor to be replicated to the new vendor with the S3 compatible storage. That way we two copies of the data offsite with different vendors.
My thought is to configure new S3 compatible buckets with the new vendor and add the buckets to my existing SOBRS for my backup jobs. So instead of 2 targets for each SOBR there will now be 3. One on the perf tier and two on the cap tier.
The goal is to have the AWS buckets and the S3 buckets match contents.
Please let me know if this is a sound approach and will it work?
TIA for any response.

No, such a configuration is not possible. Firstly, you won't be able to use two different object storage systems within a single Capacity Tier. Secondly, you won't be able to make the data offloaded from the Performance Tier be distributed into two identical copies between capacity extents. Thanks!

Thanks for the reply. Do you know of any other options VDP offers as a solution?
TIA

Re: SOBR Configuration - 2 CapTier Targets / 1 PerfTier
Can I use the Backup Copy job option? I can select one of the SOBRs as the Object to Process and then a select a bucket at my 2nd vendor as the target repository? Or do the repositories have to be the same type? My Object to process is a SOBR with the NAS and AWS repos for the SOBR.

Yes, the solution for your situation will be to use backup copy jobs, which you set up between one SOBR and another object storage repository. In this case, an additional copy of your backups will be located on another object storage repository, and in this case, both the source and target repositories can be represented by different systems.

Thanks. Hopefully one last question which is partially Veeam related.
What I have to do now is create a new bucket with my other vendor. Then in Veeam select one of the existing SOBRs as an Object to Process and then select the bucket I created with the other vendor as the target when creating the copy job.
In terms of Veeam processing the copy job, will it egress the data from vendor 1 (AWS) to vendor 2 (S3)? (I assume that it will). Also, as Veeam performs the daily offloads within the SOBR during the day, can the copy job run continuously, or do I need to schedule it and / or the SOBR permitted offload times so they two do not conflict with each other?
Thanks.
