Restoring Oracle CDB database using Oracle Explorer
Veeam support case ID - 07659914
We have been experiencing inconsistent results when attempting restores of an Oracle CDB using Oracle Explorer.
Sometimes the restore would fail with this error:
RMAN-06172: no AUTOBACKUP found or specified handle is not a valid copy or piece
Other times the restore succeeds.
Just wondering if anyone else has seen this and has any observations or insights?
We are using Veeam v12 with the Oracle RMAN plugin.
Thanks

Re: Restoring Oracle CDB database using Oracle Explorer
Hi Manfred,
According to the error code, it originates from RMAN and not from our code. I recommend reviewing paragraph 5.1.5 in the Oracle documentation to ensure that the automatic control file backup is enabled. If it is enabled but you still encounter the issue, please continue working with the support team.
Thanks!

Re: Restoring Oracle CDB database using Oracle Explorer
Hi Petr
Thanks for the response. I understand what you mean, my issue is that I have experienced this error when I know for sure that autobackup is enabled and has created backups, and then with the same set of backups the restore proceeded without error.
This RMAN error does not always mean that the backups do not exist, it can occur when RMAN is misdirected as to the location (for example)
So it felt like there was a glitch with Veeam, and I just wondered if anyone else had seen it.
Thanks

Hi Manfred,
For sure, it's not a known issue. If it’s a glitch in our software, let's investigate it with the support team and fix it.
Thanks!

Hi Petr
Apologies for the delay in responding.
We are preparing to convert a new set of databases to CDB which we will be backing up with Veeam, if the issue reappears I will post a new case with support.
Thanks for your input
