Hello,
Could you clarify some points about unstructured data backup in Hardened Repositories and Immutable Deduplicating Storage Appliances please ?
On the following page, it's written: "The immutability countdown for the backup files begins when Veeam Backup & Replication marks some old file versions and their data blocks for deletion, as per the backup job retention settings. Files and data blocks are deleted from the backup repository when their immutability lock is released."
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=120
On the following page, in case 8, the retention for the backup repository which is a hardened repository is set to 30 days, the immutability for it is set to 14 days.
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=120
Veeam makes backup files immutable during 44 days (30 + 14).
1- Why does Veeam add the 2 periods and doesn't keep 30 days or 14 days ?
2- Is it specific to deduplicating storage appliances or it will be the same behaviour on a hardened linux repository ?
Thank you
Greg
