Automating Veeam integration with rebuilt Nutanix Cluster

Post by flow90 »

Hi everyone,

For a project, I’m currently managing a Nutanix test environment that gets completely rebuilt every 2-3 months (full cluster reinstallation, including a fresh deployment of Prism Central, and automated configurations). Before tearing down the cluster, I want to include an automated step to back up some guest VMs using Veeam.

The challenge arises after the rebuild: since a brand-new Prism Central is deployed, the one previously registered in Veeam becomes orphaned. This prevents me from restoring VMs, as Veeam doesn’t recognize the new Prism Central as a valid restore destination.

I’m looking for a way—ideally using Veeam or Nutanix APIs—to automate:
1. The removal of the old (orphaned) Prism Central entry from the Veeam backup infrastructure.
2. The registration and configuration of the newly deployed Prism Central in Veeam.
3. The deployment of a brand new AHV Proxy on the Nutanix Cluster

Has anyone tackled a similar use case or could point me in the direction of API documentation or scripts that could help with this?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Unfortunately, there is no public API to perform these operations.

That is something we want to add in the future, but for now Nutanix-related public API is only on appliance level (and you need to have Prism Central already registered and appliance deployed to use this REST API).

Thanks for your answer :-) Any other possibility to automate the adding of vCenter or Prism Central from VBR ?

Best,
