Hello,
currently we have the situation to have a bunch of datastores which are snapmirrored to a 2nd location. All 9 jobs are chained and run every 3 hours. Advantage in this configuration is that the snapmirror cant run parallel for different datastores, so this saves us io- and network performance.
Now we want to change the intervals for different datastores.
A group should be mirrored every hour, a 2nd group every 3 hours and a 3rd group only once a day.
Now i try to figure out a configuration to meet these requirements without having the situation to run parallel snapmirroring.
For example i could have a 1-hour chain and a 3 hour chain, but they will meet every 3 hours and run in parallel which is not really good for IO and Network. Another example would be to have 1 chain again for all groups, which runs every hour. Additional the 3-hour group has the Jobconfiguration "Terminate the job outside the allowed backup window", so i could just allow the backup for this group in specific times with 3 hour gap. But disadvantage is that the start of a desired backup has to be within an allowed timewindow. The timewindow is static and a running backupchain may be sometimes faster, sometimes slower, so this seems to be way to inaccurate. It would be nice to have only one chain but tell some jobs to run every hour and some other jobs run only every 3rd time.
I think i need a smart idea to create a combination of chains to achive my goal. Do you have such an idea or other hint for me?
How would you solve this problem?
Thank you,
Hans

Re: snapmirror with varying intervals
Hi Hans, you could use the 'Periodically every' schedule option with different 'Start time within an hour' settings instead of job chaining. Or use Task Scheduler to schedule the jobs appropriately.

Re: snapmirror with varying intervals
Hello,
i think i create 2 chains. one chain contains group1 and runs hourly to specific minute. Additional i disallow running in every 3rd hour with timewindowsetting. In a second chain i place group1 and group2. this chain runs every 3 hours without any further limitation.
I think this provides best possibility to avoid parallel running of 2 snapmirrors. I think you can not avoid parallel runing to 100%, especially if the 3 hours group runs longer then 1 hour. Seems me to be the best compromise.
