Second Backup Location

Post by Eric_Cartman »

Hello there,

since I haven't found a buildin solution for my request, I thought I'll ask you guys.
I want my M365 backups available on our primary backup storage (Windows), but as well on our secondary backup storage (hardened linux).

Since I haven't found a buildin backup copy job (in my VBO Console) I created one myself (on VBR) where I copy the files from primary to secondary but this didn't work because of this
Failed to copy item 'adb.log' Error: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.
Failed to open file [adb.log] in readonly mode.
File 'adb.log' locked by 1 processes:
[3008:Service] Veeam Backup Proxy for Microsoft Office 365 Service: Status = 00000001, IsRestartable = True, TerminalSession = 0, ServiceShortName = Veeam.Archiver.Proxy
(C:\Windows\Veeam\Backup365Proxy\Veeam.Archiver.Proxy.exe)
Failed to open file [adb.log] for reading.
Trying to add a second backup job in VBO will also fail because in order to add a hardened repository as a backup repository for VBO you'll have to add a Backup Proxy first.
Well if you try to do that, VBO will try to install .net on Linux which is failing...

Soooo here I am.
Is there a way to get the files to my hardened repository?
Any suggestions welcome :)
Thank you!

Hi Eric

Object Storage is the only solution which supports backup copy job for this product.

Trying to add a second backup job in VBO will also fail because in order to add a hardened repository as a backup repository for VBO you'll have to add a Backup Proxy first.
Hardened Repositories is not possible as a backup repository for Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365. It won't work and there are no plans to introduce hardened repositories for Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365. If you need immutability, you need to use immutable object storage.
Is there a way to get the files to my hardened repository?
For jet db based repositories, you can use VM or Agent backup jobs with application aware processing to create a "backup" of your Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 server and its repository databases. These image level backups can be stored to a hardened repository.
