Backup TrueNas

Post by Bristolvm »

I use Veeam to backup everything (vm and data).
On my other NAS I use direct backup because I don’t have snapshot technology.
If one file is open Veeam cannot backup it.
It is not very consistent.
So I would like to know how to use snapshot on TrueNas to backup with Veeam.
Or maybe have you recommended backup NAS with Veeam?
Thanks

Hi Bristolvm, welcome to the forums.

TrueNAS has snapshots on the ZFS level as I understand it and there should be an option in the share settings to expose snapshots over NFS and to allow VSS with SMB shares.

After that, you can configure the share to be read from the snapshot directory with backup of NFS shares, and for SMB you can set either a snapshot path OR use VSS.

Either will help with your challenge here.

there is no native integration or support for using TrueNAS with our NAS backup.
but you may be able to use a combination of pre-/post-script to create a snapshot before the backup and the "alternative path" setting in your job that would allow you to read from that snapshot instead:
