Migrate Agent Backup Job to VMware Backup Job

Post by smithaetg »

VBR 12.3.1.1139 (on premise Windows VM)
VMware vSphere 7.0U3 (on premise)

When initially backing up mulitple VMware VMs the vSphere system did not have enough storage for VMware based backup jobs to complete successfully (not enough storage for snapshot based backups). So I opted to do Windows Agent backup jobs. The vSphere system now has plenty of storage. Is there a way to migrate the backup files from Windows Agent backup jobs to VMware VM backup jobs without having to start from scratch (new backup chains)? Both jobs will be using the same storage repository. (SOBR)

Hi Aaron

Unfortunately, thats not possible.
VM backup jobs cannot be mapped to Agent backup chains. A new backup chain with Active Full is required.

Hi Fabian,
Thank you for that reply. So I'll have to keep backup files for both backup jobs and manually remove the Agent based backup files as they age out of usefulness. Correct? Or is there a way to automate an age based removal of backup files that are associated with a now defunct job?
