Veeam Backup for Azure - SQL/Cosmos DB Copy to S3

Post by lprivett »

Hello,

We are hoping to backup both SQL and Cosmos DBs, alongside Azure VMs, with a secondary copy out to external S3 storage. I understand this is all possible for Azure VMs through the Web UI but not for SQL and Cosmos, is there any way to configure this or a potential workaround outside of Veeam please?

Thanks!

Hi,

We have this on our longer roadmap. For Cosmos, we do support backups for Postgres and Mongo to Azure Blob.

Which external S3 storage would you want to use?

So I am super keen on this also for Azure for SQL backups, Currently I am looking at doing an unstructured object storage backup job. Aware there maybe something hidden in the background so aiming to run the job a few hours after the SQL job and put a blackout window on the schedule to avoid it running when the job is.

Plan B should this not work would be to run a second policy in VBA but my concern there is with truncation and not seeing a copy only option for the second copy so we don't have reply issues.
