Unable to use Veeam AAP on machine - Production checkpoints work fine
Case ID: 07714667
Inherited this environment from an admin that is not here any longer. Trying to get backups set up in a better way with AAP as they were not using it before. Getting this on backups for 3 out of 6 machines:
5/30/2025 8:01:16 AM :: Failed to create VM recovery checkpoint (mode: Veeam application-aware processing with failover) Details: Failed to create VM (ID: a2ae1151-e312-4cbc-baff-63145e665115) recovery checkpoint. Job failed ('Checkpoint operation for 'ENG02' failed. (Virtual machine ID A2AE1151-E312-4CBC-BAFF-63145E665115)
Production checkpoints cannot be created for 'ENG02'. (Virtual machine ID A2AE1151-E312-4CBC-BAFF-63145E665115)'). Error code: '32770'.
If I go into Hyper-V Manager, I can create a Production checkpoint without incident on the 3x offenders. I'm wondering if my svc.veeam has the right permissions. I do have other VMs that do AAP without an issue....just 3 out of 6 with issues...so it makes me think not a permission issue.
Wondering if anyone has run across this or had any suggestions.
Thanks!

Re: Unable to use Veeam AAP on machine - Production checkpoints work fine
Hi Mark,
I doubt that it is possible to guess what the issue is based on a generic error message. It would be best to continue working with the support team, as this problem requires a technical deep dive with debug log analysis, event log examination, remote sessions, etc.
Thanks!

Stumbled upon VHDXs on these machines were dynamic. Got them converted and now the backup is happy.

The disks inside the VM were dynamic opposed to basic…not the VHDXs themselves. Once I converted those back to basic in the guest OS the backup was fine. What makes no sense is why the previous admin did that in the first place!
