Parallelization of Sure Backup AV scan with Windows Defender
Hey guys,
if Windows Defender is in use for AV scanning during a Sure Backup session it scan's the VM content in a sequential way.
Does anyone has experience about, maybe with a configuration change, to scan VMs in parallel way.
Imho this will process the Sure Backup session in a more efficient way.
Does anyone has experience with this?
Greetz,
Chris

Re: Parallelization of Sure Backup AV scan with Windows Defender
Hi chrisflyckelen,
Is it a requirement to use Windows Defender or have you tried using Veeam Threat Hunter?
Veeam Threat Hunter was noticeably faster in all testing and was introduced in Veeam Backup and Replication 12.3; one of the main reasons for using it as opposed to a "bring your own AV" is performance, so if the Windows Defender scans are a bit too slow, try Threat Hunter.

Hi David,
at the moment it is a requirement. The license used is a legacy per-socket license, which does not provide this feature.
The renewal and migration is planned next year.
So, do you have any advice for this "issue"?

Understood -- unfortunately at this time, no workarounds as Defender has some limitations. This thread discusses the situation a bit more and offers some suggestions (see the suggestion from Dima P. linked there), so you can try the suggestions there.

For future readers, Enterprise Plus socket license does support Veeam Threat Hunter.chrisflyckelen wrote: ↑Jun 10, 2025 6:47 am The license used is a legacy per-socket license, which does not provide this feature.
