Timeline for next VAL patch?

Post by mikeely »

Code: Select all

# uname -r
5.14.0-570.18.1.el9_6.x86_64
# cat /etc/redhat-release
Rocky Linux release 9.6 (Blue Onyx)
# rpm -qa | grep blksnap
kmod-blksnap-6.3.1.1016-1.el9.x86_64
Kernel is ahead of blksnap module, which is failing backups. How soon can we expect an update?

@Gostev - thanks for the quick reply. But when I look at https://www.veeam.com/kb2804 I see the max supported kernel as 5.14.0-570.17 and our systems (we have a few barking about this now) are at 5.14.0-570.18

Perhaps you have something even newer because it's Rocky. Did you try the patch and it did not work?

The module is patched to 1016 which is AFAIK the latest version.

1016 is the base VAL build number. Did you install the kernel module patch for VAL 6.3.1.1016 from https://my.veeam.com/my-products/updates (last line)?

Huh, that was it after all. Is there a repo that patch can live on to install automatically or am I going to have to make an ansible playbook to get this installed across the fleet?

At first it would be good to confirm if the current patch works for this most latest and greatest Rocky. Because the next VAL release later this month will include it out of the box. Otherwise, we would have to produce another patch, but it's already too late to include it in the upcoming maintenance release.

Hello. We are in the same situation. Our backups for kernel 5.14.0-570.21.1.el9_6.x86_64 are failing. The agent is v6.3.1.1016. Can you specify where the to get this patch version that appears to work? https://www.veeam.com/kb2804 only advertises support up to 5.14.0-570.17.1.el9_6, https://repository.veeam.com/backup/lin ... /9/x86_64/ has not been updated since March, and https://my.veeam.com/my-products has the the same incompatible version 6.3.1.

Rahanoi, if you download the .patch.rpm file from the page you listed it will work, as I have learned today.

I would definitely prefer if Veeam were to release updated RPMs instead of .patch.rpm files as the latter are much harder to keep systems updated with.

Thanks, mikeely.

It's weird because I can't see files matching patch.rpm on https://repository.veeam.com/backup/lin ... /9/x86_64/. Same following the other two links.

Hi All,

VAL Build 6.3.1.1016 does support Kernel 5.14.0-570.21.1.el9_6.x86_64, with the patch that Gostev initially mentioned.

It just takes some time between the kernel release, QA tests, and finally publishing the updates to https://www.veeam.com/kb2804 and https://my.veeam.com/my-products/updates.

Found the patch file. Turns out that URL https://my.veeam.com/my-products/updates redirects to https://my.veeam.com/my-products. Had to click on Go to Updates and the patch is the last entry at the bottom.
