Recover S3 secret Key
Hi all,
Supportcase: 07717863
Is there a way to recover the secret key out of the config database of VB365?
I know it should be there somewhere as the proxies need this to sign all api calls.

Re: Recover S3 secret Key
Hi Danny,
Yes, the "encryption password" is stored in the database in encrypted form.
May I ask what the main purpose of your request is? Why do you want to decrypt encryption passwords?
If your goal is simply to ensure you know the encryption password, you can set a new one. The old encryption password is not required to restore data from the repository.
Best,
Fabian

Hi Danny,
To the best of my knowledge, that's not possible. And, honestly, if VB365 would allow for that, I'd consider it a security issue.

Re: Recover S3 secret Key
Well it’s possible to get some passwords back in vbr config db, i think it all depends on the use case.
I do understand the security implications tho.

Hi @makacmar,
I don’t see how a blog post about <Entra ID backup> is relevant to this topic about Access Keys for S3 object storage.
Did you mean to comment in a different topic?
Best,
Fabian

Re: Recover S3 secret Key
Is this the key that was used to open the S3 Bucket in the SOBR setup? As in, to access the actual S3 Bucket?mjr.epicfail wrote: ↑Jun 10, 2025 12:40 pm Hi Fabian,
Im not looking for the encryption key, im looking for the secret key that is need to add a S3 bucket.
Then, that key should be in the S3 Bucket provider's portal.

Hi Philip,
Most S3 providers or appliance vendors allow you to view the S3 Access Key only once, right after you create it. After that, the key is hidden and cannot be viewed again.
Best,
Fabian
