Hy!
I use Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365, the reteniton is 5 years. I noticed that the year of the folder is between 2001 and 2025. The backup job backing up Exchange and SharePoint items. The backup repository type is snapshot based. Why created older folder than 2020? Is this because the Veeam backup all data from M365 (items which has created or modified date earlier than 2020)? There asre some repository.adb, which has 1-2Gb data.
Please explain it.

Re: Ask about reteniton
Hi @adam900331
Snapshot based means that it takes a backup of the situation "as is" at the time of the backup. It basically means that on the objects you are protecting, there is data that is from 2001 and so on. So your assumption is correct.

Mike

Re: Ask about reteniton
Thanks. And If the retention (5years) is apply at time, did the items removed from backup which is created or modified older than 2020?

Re: Ask about reteniton
If you're using snapshot based retention then for the period of retention it will always reflect the status of the mailbox, onedrive etc at that point in time.
if you had mails from 2018 in the mailbox when the 'snapshot' was taken then they will will be in the backup while the 'snapshot' is retained.
