Purview Sensitivity Labels Restore Issue

Post by kurt »

We've encountered an issue with files that are encrypted using a Pureview sensitivity label. After performing a restore, these files become corrupt and cannot be opened. This problem specifically affects files that were backed up using version 8.1.1.159.

Interestingly, we found that files backed up with version 7 can be restored using version 8 without any issues, and they open perfectly fine. It's worth mentioning that we had a similar experience with Veeam Data Cloud, which led us to continue using Veeam for M365. Unfortunately, we are now having the same problem once again.

Could this be a limitation or change in the new APIs or permissions that version 8 utilizes?

Thanks

Hi @kurt

Are you restoring to the same location (and opening the file with a user with the correct permission?). Right now our engineering team is researching this one specifically but I have not yet received a timeline for a result

Hello,

I deleted the file from the team and then restored to the original location, it took a very long time for 1 excel file and gave an error "The label that's applied to this item prevents it from being edited or deleted. Check the item's label for more details." However, the file does seem to work fine so that's a plus. The files that were backed up with the same sensitivity label using version 7 restore quicker without the error.

Thanks
