Hi everyone,
I'm not entirely sure if this is the correct subforum for this topic, but I’m hoping someone can provide some insights.
We're currently running a Hyper-V failover cluster with its Cluster Shared Volume (CSV) hosted on a LUN in our SAN storage. We've recently invested in a new SAN system but, unfortunately, received poor consultation during the planning phase. The new storage system does not support pool-to-pool or volume-level mirroring, which was a key requirement for our intended setup.
Our original design was to place the CSV on Storage Pool A, and have the SAN handle synchronous mirroring to Pool B, providing hardware-level redundancy. Since this is no longer possible with the new hardware, we’re evaluating alternatives.
Question:
Is it possible to use Veeam Backup & Replication to replicate or mirror the CSV (or its contents) from the primary LUN to a secondary LUN within the same or another SAN — ideally in a way that supports failover or at least rapid recovery in case of storage failure?
Any technical insights, practical experience, or suggestions for alternative approaches would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance and best regards from Germany,
Flo

Re: Veeam-Based CSV Replication for Hyper-V Cluster – Seeking Best Practice"
Hi Flo
Welcome to the forum.
With our products you can replicate Virtual Machines running on the Hyper-V failover cluster to another HyperV/HyperV Cluster target. But we don't have a feature to orchestrate Volume Level replication between two different Storage Pools.
Best,
Fabian

Re: Veeam-Based CSV Replication for Hyper-V Cluster – Seeking Best Practice"
Hi Fabian,
if I understand you correctly, I need to present the LUN on Pool B to the Hyper-V cluster as a CSV as well, and then I can use Veeam to replicate the VMs from CSV_Pool_A to CSV_Pool_B?
Can this only be done asynchronously, e.g., once a day, or is synchronous replication also possible?
Best regards,
Flo
