Fragmented indexes (SQL backed Veeam BR)

This KB suggest indexes get defragged regularly:

But the log reports most of the tables 90%+ Fragmented. This is just a snippet from our Job.DatabaseMaintenance.log... Can we just run some good old SQL maintenance on the DB?

HI Stupots,

The User Guide article you linked is correct, there is Database Maintenance job that runs weekly by default and index defragmentation is part of the maintenance that occurs.

I advise leave it as is and let the Database Maintenance job handle it; if you're seeing issues that you're lead to believe are related to the index fragmentation, it's better to first open a Support Case and let Veeam Support review the situation first and check how the previous Database Maintenance sessions ran and check the reported behavior; in some situations the maintenance job may be adjusted to run more frequently but this should be applied only with the supervision of Veeam Support and only if there are actual issues you're observing.
