Hi team,
I have a question how can i start a tape job.
We have currently the following test lab.
Location A :
VBR installtion
Backup Job (testVM)
With a backup copyjob we transfer the data to a repro that is located location B
Location B.
VBR with a Tape infrastructure
The goal is that the Tape Job (Location B) starts when the backup copyjob (location A) is finished.
How can i select that copjob in the scheduler of the TapeJob (location B)?
Thanks for your help.
Regards,
Oliver

Re: Trigger to start a Tape Job / 2 VBR Server
Hi Oliver,
Unfortunately this won't work quite like you're hoping. As per the User Guide, Backup to Tape ignores backups made by other Veeam servers.
File to Tape can assist here, and Veeam backup files don't count for licensing.
Alternatively, if you consolidate the two VBR servers into one and control both sites from the same VBR, this would also resolve the issue.

Re: Trigger to start a Tape Job / 2 VBR Server
Hi David,
Thanks for the quick response in this matter.
Thanks for the addional infos we want to use the option add backup repositories so thats fine. We need to use a scheduler for the tapejob that guaranteed that the job starts when the copyjob is finished.
If we use a time within the scheduler before the copyjob is finished it can causes issue , correct? If we define a time for the scheduler long after the copyjob is finished , we waste a lot of time.

oliver

Hi Oliver,
You're very welcome for the response.

Understood, however, the same limitation applies to this as well. So File to Tape will be a requirement for the current set-up, you won't be able to get the Backup to Tape job to "see" the imported backups.

With Backup to Tape, the Schedule Tab in Tape jobs has controls for what to do if another job needs to lock the same backups as the tape job. Give the page a read, but in brief you can instruct Veeam to make the source job wait or the tape job wait for the backup file to be "free".
With File to Tape, VSS is typically recommended to avoid lock conflicts with the backup files. Note however the VSS snapshot may be quite large and also VSS has a limit of 64 TiB for volume sizes.
