Feature request: creating pools of proxies

Post by denispolynin »

Hi,

It would be helpful to have the ability to group proxies into pools and assign these pools to specific Datacenters or vCenters. Currently, with 10GbE+ connectivity across the environment, Veeam doesn't always select the most optimal proxy for a given backup job.

While Proxy Affinity and manually selecting proxies for each job can partially address this issue, these methods are relatively static and require ongoing manual configuration.

It would be a significant improvement to allow the creation of proxy pools that can be assigned to vCenters. This way, when configuring backup, backup copy, or replication jobs, users could select the appropriate proxy pool, ensuring optimal proxy usage and performance.

Hi Denis,

Have you tried the "Connected DataStore" option? Assuming each DataCenter/vCenter has its own datastore, this option could help.

Backup Copy jobs do not leverage backup proxies. In almost all cases, a Backup Copy job is a direct copy from the source repository to the target repository. There are exceptions when using Object Storage, Deduplication Appliances, or Shared Network Storage—in these cases, the Gateway Server is involved as well.

Hi,

We have a lot of proxy servers and vCenters at this one site alone. The workaround provided is not applicable to this scale. We need automation, which is why we submitted a feature request. In short, when selecting datastores in this option, the selection should be by vCenter, not by individual datastore. There are many of individual datastores, and their composition constantly changes—some are decommissioned, others added. We need to select the vCenter, and the rescan should automatically include the datastores.
