AWS EC2 - Multiple Policy

Post by mamosorre84 »

Hi,

I read in the doc that "If a resource is included into multiple backup policies, it will be processed only by the backup policy that has the highest priority."

We have a specific use case that needs to have a backup of an EC2 image with a short retention (ie: 60 days), and only a single volume of that instance with a long retention (ie: 1 year)?

How can achieve this goal if we can't use multiple policy?

Waiting for some suggestions!

Thank you

Hi Marco,

I would recommend to use the yearly schedule option for the policy and store the whole instance in Glacier or Glacier Deep Archive. This way everything is covered compared to the single volume. Could you clarify the reason for just having the single volume of the instance protected for a longer retention compared to the whole instance?

Hi Niels,

thank you for your reply.

This specific volume contains data with different compliance needs, so we would like to follow different retention, and limit costs for the other volumes of course.

EDIT: the most recent data should be restored fast, but we don't need GFS..the optimal should be a "move after" to archive
