Reasoning behind limiting features in Fixed License Model?

Post by alen88 »

Hi Veeam team,

I'm reaching out to better understand the reasoning behind the feature limitations imposed on the Fixed License Model in Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365. As a technical user and vendor, I find these restrictions puzzling—especially given that all our users are fully licensed under the Fixed License Model.

Customer decided to go with Fixed license model because some business reasons, and I was blown away with limitations that I experienced because of this, especially given that all our users are fully licensed under the Fixed License Model and on top of that, customer purchased additional licenses to have wiggle room for new users. I'm really disappointed with limitations like Inability to rename backup jobs, to change schedule(default random-time schedule appears quite unprofessional and disorganized(This also can be a feature request) and some of files are locked because jobs are running when people are at work. It should be better if they run at off-hours. This was fixed with Veeam support, but your team and I spend some time on something that customer could sort in few minutes if there was an option to edit.), forcing AM/PM time format etc.

Thing that should be resolved as soon as possible is adding whole SharePoint site to backup at once(Feature request?), like you have option on Teams. Adding manually 1600 sites to backup and checking every week if there is a new site created is not funny :/

Good morning,

Thank you for your feedback. The fixed license model was designed to be utilised by organisations wishing to only protect a subset of their data typically.
With that said we have changes planned to simplify the license models & improve flexibility.

Thank you,
Michael

Ok, I suppose that this make sense when you said it like that, but it still doesn't make sense to me. If I have all users covered with licenses, why am I limited in features just because we opted for a fixed license model instead of a variable one?
I hope this will be changed soon, because from my perspective, this doesn’t make sense at all. The customer chose the fixed license model due to some business decisions, and now they are crippled by limited functionality—even though all users are licensed, with extra free licenses available for growth.

I hope that you will implement some changes sooner than later :)
