VHR - Does Immutability timer change when moving backs to another backup job

Post by somoa »

I have a backup copy sending backups to a VHR with 10 year retention on the GFS. This sets the Immutability to be 10 years in the future.

Today I found some of the servers in the backup copy only need to be 30 days/4 weeks. If I move these backup files to this new backup copy job, will the Immutability timer change to match 30 days instead of 10 years? They still remain on the same VHR, just under a new backup copy job with different retention.

The VHR is set to 30days Immutability.

If it doesn't change by moving is there another way to update them to reflect the new retention?

You can't reduce the immutability date to an earlier date once it is set, this could be used by an attacker if it was possible.
