New Install Help

Post by ec.bryantu »

We recently just purchased the VRO product to go along with B&R and VeeamONE. I have a question when trying to install the VRO server. Currently we have a separate B&R Windows Server with Postgres DB. And a separate VeeamONE Windows Server that has a DB assigned to it from our SQL Cluster. I have created a VRO it's own DB on our cluster as well. When I get to the install I have a couple questions:
1. Why does it want me to install all three products and the check boxes are greyed out - I think I read it just installs a slimmed down version for the VRO piece so maybe answered my own question
2. When I get to the SQL part I put Use Existing SQL Instance, put the servern name\instance name, port and hit Next, For the DB names I hit browse and chose all the DBs that I created. When I hit next I get an error.

What could I be doing wrong here? And is it looking for the existing Veeam B&R and ONE DBs?

Thanks.

For #1, you are correct; all three products are installed. VBR is a standard install. It is used when the primary VBR server is down, and VRO needs this for failovers. The ONE installation is a custom build that VRO uses for collecting data.

For #2, could you share the error you encounter?

Hi there,

So for question 1 -
- You are correct, we install a slimmed-down/customized version of Veeam ONE server and a full Veeam Backup & Replication server on the VRO server (additional to VRO server itself, of course)
These "embedded" components of ONE and VBR are useful in various recovery scenarios (for example if your production VBR is lost or offline, you can use the embedded VBR already installed on VRO)

For question 2 -
- Have you have already created the databases? You can confirm the required SQL permissions here in the User Guide.
- Or are you browsing to existing databases for your other VBR/ONE installations? For VRO you should create 3 new databases - VRO setup is not looking for any existing databases for a new install.
- Can you share the exact error you are getting during setup?

Thanks!

Ok thanks for this. I figured if we were using our own SQL server we would have to create the DBs ahead of time. So are you saying I need to delete the 3 DBs I created (new) and make sure the account I provided as the correct permissions and let the installer install those DBs?

The error I am getting states "Specified Database is not valid. Please choose Veeam ONE database or create a new database to proceed"

OK, then yes, I would advise giving the database account you use permissions to create the databases from the installer.
If any default databases already exist on your SQL server (e.g. VeeamONE from your already-installed ONE server), then just choose a new name for that database in the VRO installer (e.g. VeeamONEVRO") and installer will create a new Db without any conflicts.

Let us know how it goes!
