Report backups

Post by GianlucaCroci »

Good Morning,
Over the past few weeks, we've noticed a daily increase of 6-7 TB in CopyJob usage on our Object Storage (Immutable).
I'd like to know if I can generate a report, and how (powershell).
In the report, I'd like to see all the machines backed up on a given day and their storage usage, so I can see if we can improve and reduce usage.
Please note that we backup physical servers, virtual servers, Windows, Linux and AIX machines.

Thanks in advance for the help

Hello Gianluca,
Do you have Veeam ONE? Or can you download the trial perhaps? We have a few reports for this: Perhaps you can obtain something similar with PowerShell but I do not have the cmdlets currently on front of me.

Good Morning
we've Veeam One but the version "Community".
Also, since we updated it to the latest version, or since we updated "Veeam B&R" to the latest version, when I want to run a report, it says "Error: Failed to create report "xxxxx"".
I don't use it much because it's a limited "Community" version, and I hadn't used it in a while.
But having updated Veeam B&R first, and seeing as a new version was released, I also updated Veeam One.

Anyway, I'll look into the problem as soon as I can.
The rest of the application seems to work.

So no way to have a Report with PowerShell.

Re: Report backups

I managed to get Veeam One working again, and found a seemingly useful report
"Veeam Backup Overview" -> "BACKUP ON REPOSITORY"

I say apparently because something isn't correct.
If I look at the last column, "Latest Restore Point," in several cases it shows a date more than 30 days old. This is impossible because when I look at the properties of the various servers in Veeam, they are all recent.
Furthermore, if I look at the usage indicated in the report and then look at the repository in Veeam, they don't show the same size, and the difference is several TB.

However, I'm not writing to pass judgment on the report but simply to inform you that it already provides me with useful information, even if it is not entirely accurate.

Thanks a lot.

Gianluca,

What is your retention for the source backup job, backup copy job, immutability duration on your backup copy job, and have you modified the block generation setting (if so, what is your setting).

Thanks

Hello Steve,

the backups have 28-35 days of retention (all backups, copyjob and immutability)

What do you mean with "the block generation setting" ?

Thanks
Gianluca

Gianluca,

By default we have block generation set to 10 days, so based on your response I assuming you haven't modified the default setting. Here is a great explanation of what block generation is and why we use it: Block Generation

Thanks
