SharePoint Issue: An error occurred while sending the request.. The response ended prematurely.

I've had an open case on this issue for a while, but there hasn't been much progress. Is anyone else experiencing this?

The error message is:

"An error occurred while sending the request. The response ended prematurely."

It occurs across different versions and builds (8.1.1.2200, 8.1.20). The issue is sporadic and comes and goes for different organizations.

It is ONLY affecting SharePoint objects.
