Veeam Mount Server's NIC

Post by Asahi »

Hi,

I have a question about the following scenario.

・Physical Windows SQL Server Machine (1Gbps and 10Gbps LAN)
・Linux Immutable Repository (1Gbps and 10Gbps LAN)
・Veeam Backup and Mount Server (1Gbps LAN Only)

The repository is for Linux, so the mount server is handled by the Veeam backup server.
At this time, when using Veeam Explorer for SQL Server, only the mount server connected to a 1 Gbps NIC will create the mount point.
Is it correct to understand that the performance of the mount process and the DB file copy process after mounting may decrease because the mount server's NIC is 1 Gbps?

Kind Regards,
Asa.

Hi Asahi,

Database mounting + restore will utilize the 1 Gbps NIC in this scenario, and it will likely be the bottleneck, correct. Backups should be quite fine and will be able to utilize the 10 Gbps networks (use Preferred Networks to help ensure they're used for backup).

But since the mount server only has 1 Gbps, that will be used during restore operations. Please see the How it works for Veeam Explorer for Microsoft SQL User Guide for a more detailed diagram of the restore process.

Hi David,

Thank you for Info! :D

As I feared, there is a high possibility that restoration will be delayed.
Even if it is ultimately mounted on the SQL Server machine, I thought there would be speed issues because the mount point creation is performed by the Veeam server.

Thank you for your response. We will consider changing the customer's network and hardware configuration. :D

Kind Regards,
Asa.
