Veeam Enterprise Manager / Repository Target VMs in Azure

Post by tthomas1@ebsco.com »

Hello,
We are just starting a journey from on-premises to Microsoft Azure. Currently I have four Veeam servers on-premises at our main datacenter and am trying to determine if they can be migrated to Azure. Would love any advice!
  • Veeam Enterprise Manager - this VM is currently on-prem and manages Veeam B&R installations at headquarters and several remote offices. Can this run in an Azure Windows VM?
  • Veeam Backup Copy Target Repository - this is a Backup Copy target repository for remote office's Backup Copy jobs. Can this run in an Azure Windows VM?
  • Veeam Backup & Replication - there are two Veeam B&R VMs at HQ. One backs up a single server and the other backs up two servers, all via the Veeam Agent. Can these servers be moved to Azure?

Hello nothing prevents you to deploy these servers in Azure as long as connectivity is taken care of.

And if the goal is to store data in Azure, I would suggest to consider replacing the repository server altogether with Veeam Vault which would spare you the cost of the license and the management of the server while adding security for your data.

It could also be a good opportunity to review your architecture and see if you could consolidate your 2 VBR in HQ ? 2 VBR for 3 workloads seem a lot of work…
If you were to use Vault, you could even do without the VBRs at all and backup directly the 3 agents to Vault…
