Veeam Cloud Connect: Improvement suggestions.

Post by DanielEngelmark »

Since i can’t find a good place to put this, ill put it here.

As a service provider and using VCC I have some suggestions about improving the GUI for VCC.

________________________________________________________________________________________

Problem: Offline agent show “Error” instead of “Offline”.

Description: Veeam agents installed on laptops will be online and go offline, it's the nature of being a laptop. The problem is that when an agent goes offline VCC treats this as an error state and that will cause alarms to go off in the overview and the discovery page. Errors should always be something to be investigated with haste, but when normal usage is seen as error you fall into error fatigue and run the risk of missing real errors instead.

Solution: Let the administrator set the threshold how many days an agent can be offline before VCC treats the state as an error. This way we can spot real problems with agents being offline for to long and keep the overview clean for real errors.

Problem: No tiered payment plans for clients.

Description: As a service provider we have different payment schemes depending on the total backup storage being used by the customer. At the moment a payment plan can only be set per Gigabyte, and this can of course be fixed by creating multiple plans with different prices but this is a mess to keep track of.

Solution: Create dynamic plans that automatically gives discounts when the tenant reaches a threshold like the example below. (listed in sek)

51 - 200 GB 2:75kr /GB
201 - 500 GB 1:75kr /GB
501 - 1000 GB 1:50 kr /GB
1001 - 5000 GB 1 kr /GB
5001 – 20 000 GB 0:75 kr /GB
More than 20 000 GB 0:50 kr /GB
Ex. 350 GB = 500kr + 410 + 262 = 1172 kr

Hello Daniel,

Thank you for your post!
an agent goes offline VCC treats this as an error state and that will cause alarms to go off in the overview and the discovery page.
To make sure I got this right - you are referring to an overview page in Veeam Service Provider Console?
As a service provider we have different payment schemes depending on the total backup storage being used by the customer. At the moment a payment plan can only be set per Gigabyte, and this can of course be fixed by creating multiple plans with different prices but this is a mess to keep track of.
Need assistance from @Vitaliy S..

Hi Dima,

First statement, i found the answer by digging in the notification settings :D , so for future reference;
Configuration > Notifications > "Backup agent connection state" > Edit alarm
Rules > Change: severity from "Error" to "information"
Copy the rule and create a new alarm with the error state for agents past a threshold.

This solves the issue regarding the Overview problem, but the problem still exist in the Discovery > Discovered computers tab, The management agent have the "Connection state" = "Inaccessible" and management agent status "Error"
