Hi All,
- I have a Dell R640 running a fully updated Windows Server 2025 with hyper-v enabled
- I have a simple Linux VM I want to test a restore to Proxmox (1C, 2GB memory, 25GB disk)
- I have a Proxmox VE v9 server with all recent patches running on another R640
- Both hosts have the exact same hardware
I'm trying to restore a VM that was backed up from hyper-v over to Proxmox. I need to test functionality of moving workloads across various platforms with Veeam and already running into a problem. Every attempts results in an error in Veeam saying "failed to prepare disk for restore" and just craps all over the bed and fails.
In my restore settings, I've chosen...
- The Proxmox host (which is already added to Veeam B&R without errors)
- Change the disk to local-lvm and deselect "migrate resource pools"
- Select RAW as disk type
- Change network to the Proxmox bridge
- Rename to a name Proxmox accepts
I hit the go button and it kicks off the veeam worker no problem, then once changes to "In progress", the restore flat out fails with no more info than that message.
I've searched through these forums for a couple days and all I find are feature requests for this but the documentation directly from Veeam says this should work in the exact same way as with other restores for Proxmox. (link to their own documentation https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=120)
I've hit a wall. AIs are of no help since they all think Veeam can't do this and you need to use the qemu agent to convert the disk while others flat out say it can be done. My Google-Fu appears to be failing me as well as no answer is available.
I'm assuming others have also run into this? Any fixes? Not sure if you need more info than this.
