Hi
If I backup my local system ("C:\ Drive") to a local drive "D:\" which is formated with REFS (win server 2016)
Lets say I loose the entire C drive.
Can I use veeam agent recovery media to boot into the server and read the backup file which is stored on D drive? I did not find any information if this ISO allows me to read a REFS backup repository or if there are any limitations.
Thanks
Timo

Re: restore from local refs
Hi Timo,
Yes, it is possible.
However, ensure you have recovery media created on the same machine; otherwise, the ReFS driver might not match and the filesystem may not be accessible. With recovery media created by newer versions of Windows, the file system of the backup volume may also be upgraded during restore.
For example, do not use recovery media created on Windows Server 2025 to restore backups from drive D on a Windows Server 2016 machine.

Please keep in mind that writing backups to a disk on the same machine is not considered best practice. Backups should be stored on remote locations.
Best,
Fabian
