[FEATURE REQUEST] - TAPE JOB PAUSE OPTION

Post by CarlosEsteves »

Hello,

Is there any plan to add PAUSE to the tape jobs?

Hi Carlos,

Nothing short term right now. However, I would advise that stopping the jobs normally will have a pretty similar effect as on next run as anything it should have backed up will be backed up on the next run. Similarly, in v13 the retry behavior has been improved for tape jobs.

Can you share a bit on the situation you're needing an explicit pause for?

I´m running a backup to tape job with 170TB of data and I´m using all 4 drives available.

I don´t know exactly what happened but one drive shows as Idle with red icon on it.

All Ok on Tape Library said.

I would like to pause the job to do a inventory / rescan on the tape library.

Understood.

Likely it means the drive is in maintenance mode / disabled. I think no need to stop the job for an inventory (won't help), and rescan will not affect disabled status either.

Try re-enabling it, and if it gets disabled again, likely you'll need a Support Case to review the behavior.

As for the request, please note that with Backup to Tape (both simple and GFS media pools), there is logic built in to ensure all data that should be moved to tape gets moved to tape and to avoid re-copying data already copied to tape. In other words, it's typically fine to stop the job and then start it again manually.

But for your issue, try just re-enabling the drive and if it goes disabled again, please open a Support case as mentioned.
