SMB backup static data

Post by karsten123 »

hi,
i want to backup a SMB file share and most of the data is static archive data.
we plan to schedule the backup job once a week.

if we set keep all versions for the last 30 days and set keep all versions in advanced settings, the backup of the file will be deleted from repository after 30 days if it was deleted down the road, right? because deletion is also a „version“.
should we then increase the days to satisfy the needs or is it more clever to leverage archive repository?

i am confused.

what is the way to go, to retain data for x time even it was deleted?

Hello karsten123,

Last version of the file always remains in the backup to provide ability to restore entire folder or even entire share, archive can 'accumulate' only the changed file versions and store those for a longer period of time. Please take a look at this article: Unstructured Data Backup Retention Scenarios.

Thank you!
