Hello together,
We have a protection group called “Production Machines” containing about 20 PCs. One of these PCs was recently reinstalled and received a new IP address.
Since then, Veeam keeps trying to use the old IP address (192.168.140.218) when deploying the agent or connecting to the machine.
The PC is reachable under its new IP, but Veeam continues to reference the old one.
The following troubleshooting steps have already been tried without success:
- Removed the PC from the Veeam Configuration
- Restarted both the backup server and the reinstalled machine
- Flushed DNS cache on both systems
- Verified that the hostname resolves correctly to the new IP
Error message:
16.10.2025 11:53:40 Warning Failed to connect to <PC-NAME>
Details: The specified network name is no longer available.
Failed to connect to share '\\192.168.140.218\ADMIN$'.
Request for assistance:
How can I make Veeam recognize and use the new IP address for this client so the Agent can be deployed successfully?
Thank you so much!
Best regards

Re: Protection Group Fails to Recognize Reinstalled PC (old IP still used)
Never mind
There was still an old DNS entry in our AD. After I deleted it and restarted the PC, the problem was resolved, and Veeam immediately found the computer under its new IP
