Excluding a machine from backup job if it is part of a protection group

Post by jcofin13 »

I have a machine that has gone offline. It wont be repaired for the foreseeable future.

Is there a way to add this machine to an exclusion list if it is part of a backup job and that machine is in a protection group or is the only option to remove the offline machine from the protection group entirely and then put it back in the protection group once it is back online. I see no options for exclusions with machines that are part of a protection group.

Id like to avoid the failed backups while the machine is offline.

Hi jcoffin,

There does not appear to be a way to exclude a specific machine.
I recommend moving the machine to a different protection group or removing it entirely if you do not expect a repair in the near future.

Also, consider the backup chain. If enabled in the agent job settings, "Deleted Agent Retention" could remove the backup chain when you remove the agent from the backup job and then wait too long to solve the issue.

Best,

Thanks! The deleted item retention setting on this job isnt enable so we should be ok for the backup chain. Hopefully the machine itself is fixed and back working in the next week or so. I appreciate the help.
