Saving PureStorage buckets

Post by GianlucaCroci »

We've two PureStorage "clusters" that we need to synchronize. Unfortunately, the product was sold to us with this feature, but it doesn't work.

The two "clusters" are located on different sites, and the data from the first must also be stored on the second.
We've already set up a backup, and restoring to the second site works.
However, we'd like to do it automatically.
Running a backup isn't a problem because we use a schedule, but what about automatic restore?

Or are there other ways to keep them in sync?

Thanks in advance for the help.
Best regards

Hi Gianluca,

Well, forgive the obvious statement but probably it would be best to figure out why the synchronization is not working. I've not worked with Pure's S3 closely, but as I get it they use snapshot replication to sync buckets across regions, but it would be best to figure out with Pure why that's not working.

For automating restores to another bucket, Veeam's Powershell module is the way to go right now, and you can script periodic restores. There is a parameter -OverwriteMode that will control how Veeam handles when an object already exists on the target bucket that should greatly reduce the restore time.

Hello David,

thanks a lot for your reply.

Yes, that's right, we're also talking to the manufacturer. That would be plan B. :-)

We're creating the script based on the information in the link you provided.

Thanks you so much

Hello,

I'm still referring to this PureStorage.

As I was saying, we created the backup job, and today we also created the CopyJob on the secondary site.
Is it correct that I can't write to an immutable Scale-out? Because it doesn't give me a choice.

Furthermore, at the end of each month, we'd like to be able to save this backup to tape, but we can't choose either the backup job or the CopyJob (they're not displayed).
How can we do that?

Thanks again for your help

Hi GianlucaCroci,

Scale-out is possible, but check the limitations here and see if any apply. If you cannot spot a relevant limitation, best to open a Support Case and let Veeam Support review.

Are you on v12? Object Storage backup to tape is supported starting in Veeam v13.
