Deleted item retention for PVE

Post by lmf-mx »

Is there any hidden deleted item retention option for PVE or an item on the roadmap?

I found no equivalent doc or options mentioned in https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=120 for PVE.

Is the only current option to drain backups from a deleted item over time creating a separate job using "days" for the expiry count instead of "restore points" and migrate the job to it?

Hi lmf-mx,

I recommend changing the retention type of your backup jobs to “days”, as this will become mandatory in our next update (v13).
The “Restore Points” option will no longer be available.

Do you want to remove backups of deleted VMs before the backup job’s retention period is reached?

Hi Fabian,

Yes, some of our VMs that were on our VMware cluster and off were still hitting daily backups even though they were migrated to our Proxmox cluster. The PVE cluster has backups covering the entire retention period for these. We've dropped the VMware datastore and old machines, so it's just getting these to expire. I did migrate these old ones to jobs using days to help that along.

Can I ask what's the reasoning for the move to dropping retention points? We use them along with the Monthly/Weekly archive option to keep a certain amount of backups that run every couple hours while maintaining a GFS style set with more spacing between them.
