VOne Alarm Tweaking

Post by Rumple »

Since the Enterprise Reports are useless, I am looking at VeeamOne for the Alerting, specifically host not reporting (since Enterprise Reports doesn't show you hosts with zero jobs run on the summary email).
I like the alarm for Backup Copy job state, however we frequently have occasional failures in backups at our satellite sites (especially for our WAN copy jobs) so I really don't want to be woken up everytime a 15 minute runtime jobs fails...however if it fails for 10 times, that's probably when I should be checking to see what is going on....

It seems like there is no way to change the trigger's on X Alerts in a row or something...
Anyone else have any idea's...

I used VeeamOne like Ver 2/3 and I really feel like outside of this crappy Xbox looking interface, it really hasn't gotten any real greater intelligence built into alarming since then....same old basic alarms.
Things are on, or off....and nothing in between

Hello Mark,

Thanks a lot for sharing your feedback. We really appreciate your honesty. You're absolutely right that the current alarm system could benefit from more flexibility. Some alarms already support a repeat count property, and adding this to the Backup Copy Job State alarm should be relatively straightforward.

We’re actively working on improving the alarm system in upcoming updates. If you have more ideas on how you'd like the alarms to behave, feel free to share.

Thanks

Certainly, ability to filter on (or exception) specific jobs on alarms would be really nice.
Being able to put in repeat count before triggering alert on all alarms is important. I would suspect that would be under the suppress section. Don't alarm until X triggers in a row type of thing.

Dashboards...ability to drill down on them would be amazing. Top repositories by used space for example. I have 9 sites all with Default Backup Repository which I am going to have to go back and rename because I can't tell which of my 9 sites the one with low space is at...

Hello Mark,
Some of the Alarms can filter by job today, but it is to include them, no way to exclude, and agree on the other trigger options.

For drill-downs, agree as well, not sure we will be able to achieve this anytime soon but surely on our roadmap.

For the Repositories, I wanted to chime in, if you are running v13, we have a totally refreshed report called - Capacity Planning for Backup Repositories, which you can filter by VBR, or even without filtering, you can always see the VBR + Repo Name. This is one of my favorite reports as it is super visual, especially love the trend.

You can do some fine tunning using Report Builder after saving this report, and keep just those graphs for example, nothing else, and display it on a NOC view with the share option.

Let us know if this is useful, I understand it is more clicks, but if you use global search to find the report and run it, certainly fast as well.
