[MERGED] Unable to use OVHCloud and Scaleway for immutability ?

Post by yathus »

Hello,

My case ID #07871647

I am trying to use these two providers with Veeam and the immutability option.
I already use OVHCloud S3 with Veeam without any particular issues.

I created bucket 1-AZ with aws cli with the lock in compliance mode for 7 days.

On both provider i have an error, the same : "Unable to use backup immutability: the default retention is not supported".

It would appear that Scaleway is aware of this : object-storage-as-backup-target-f52/sca ... 73619.html

I have created a ticket with both providers.

Thanks

Yathus

Hi Yathus
I created bucket 1-AZ with aws cli with the lock in compliance mode for 7 days.
We don't support lifecycle or object lock default retention configured outside of Veeam Backup & Replication.
I recommend asking Scaleway or OVHCloud how to create buckets without such policies.

Thanks for the tips i was able de create bucket on OVHCloud AND Scaleway with your help.

Code: Select all

aws s3api create-bucket --bucket bucket-name --object-lock-enabled-for-bucket --profile scaleways
aws s3api put-object-lock-configuration --bucket bucket-name --object-lock-configuration "{\"ObjectLockEnabled\":\"Enabled\"}" --profile scaleways
But i have a strange effect, when i started first backup Veeam created a new bucket on OVHCloud and Scaleway with a "random" name xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx-1761910127-aux

Is it normal ? Automatic bucket creation enabled maybe ?

It's rather strange that you have to create a bucket that won't be used for backups.

Is this bucket only used to validate the provider's technical capabilities?

Thanks again,

I believe it also serves as the root bucket that stores information about other automatically created buckets. So this is the bucket you're going to be importing into a clean backup server install in the situation when everything else is lost.

You right, in the first bucket i have an object : Veeam/Backup/Veeam/Config/BackupBucketMapping/{b9214e75-3426-43b4-b862-06625b221256}/Backups/f0299e10-c9db-4d92-a042-44d09f271914
which content mapping info to the "true" bucket where data are stored.

This is important to me because I have several buckets and within the same projects, so I need to be able to monitor data consumption per bucket.
